Coroner Determines Small Bowel Obstruction as Cause of Lisa Marie Presley’s Death Following Bariatric Surgery
ShareShareShareShareShare

Authorities announced on Thursday that Lisa Marie Presley passed away as a result of complications arising from bariatric surgery she underwent several years ago.

The renowned singer, songwriter, and descendant of Elvis Presley, who was 54 years old at the time, sadly succumbed to natural causes linked to the impact of a small bowel obstruction, according to the official ruling by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner. Subsequent information shedding light on the circumstances surrounding Presley’s passing was disclosed in an autopsy report made public on Thursday afternoon.

According to the report, Presley’s complications stemmed from a common issue associated with bariatric surgery, a weight loss procedure often employed when other methods have proven ineffective or when individuals have significant medical conditions, as indicated by the Mayo Clinic.

Presley passed away at a Los Angeles hospital, having been transported there by paramedics in response to a 911 call reporting a woman experiencing cardiac arrest at her residence. No public statement was made at the time regarding the underlying cause of her medical emergency.

The autopsy report revealed that she had been experiencing stomach pain earlier on the day of her passing.

On January 22, a funeral was held for Presley at Graceland, the iconic residence where she resided with her father during her childhood. The estate has since transformed into a museum, a popular tourist destination, and a cherished site for devoted Elvis enthusiasts.

Presley is survived by her three daughters: 34-year-old Riley Keough, known for her role in “Daisy Jones & the Six,” as well as 15-year-old twins Harper and Finley Lockwood. Tragically, her son Benjamin Keough passed away in 2020.

Following Lisa Marie Presley’s passing, there was a potential for a significant legal battle over her estate. Just four days after her funeral, her mother, Priscilla Presley, submitted court documents contesting a modification made in 2016 to Lisa Marie’s living trust. This amendment removed Priscilla Presley and a former business manager as trustees and designated her two eldest children as replacements.

In May, Priscilla Presley and Riley Keough, Lisa Marie Presley’s daughter and the current sole trustee, reached a settlement regarding the disputed amendment to the living trust. The details of the settlement were not provided.

On a separate note, Riley Keough received her first Emmy nomination on Wednesday in the category of Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie for her performance in “Daisy Jones & the Six.”
