Three are due in court following the major disruption in Sunderland, charged with affray, which also includes riot.
The defendants are Riley Adey, 19, and Josh Kellet, 29, both from Washington, and Leanne Hodgson, 43, of Holborn Road, Sunderland. They appeared at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court where they were formally charged with engaging in the disturbances.
They appear charged with involvement in disturbances on 2 August at Sunderland. They face sentences that, at minimum, could result in terms in prison of 10 years.
The trio made no pleas in court. Instead, they were directed to return to Newcastle Crown Court on 29 November for a plea.
The riots occurred in Sunderland, among numerous riots that took place throughout other parts of the United Kingdom, such as Middlesbrough, Darlington, Rotherham, Bolton, Birmingham, and Belfast. It has been reported that the reasons behind these riots were sparked from a sad event about the attack on three girls attending a dance workshop at Southport.
